Copa del Rey third round draw

Barcelona were handed a tough Copa del Rey third round draw today after being paired with Barbastro again.

The teams met last season at the same stage with Barca struggling to measure their superiority before goals from Fermin Lopez, Rafinha and Robert Lewandowski earned them a 3-2 victory.

The fourth-tier side are struggling in the league – they are 16th in Group 2 of 18 teams – but earned a 2-0 win over Gernika yesterday.

Midfielder Havito said: “Repeat of last year! We are very happy and will try to enjoy it again.”

Barbastro already has a Catalan side this year after beating Barca’s rivals Espanyol in the previous round.

Real Madrid will also face a Segunda Division RFEF side after being drawn at Deportivo Minera in a tie at home to Cartagena.

Athletic Bilbao, who won the Copa on penalties against Real Mallorca last season to end a 40-year trophy drought, will play Logrones, who beat Girona in the previous round.

Atletico Madrid make the trip south to face Marbella, while Valencia face Eldense.
