Rangers eye £5m January signing who excels ‘physically and tactically’

Rangers are eyeing a £5million move for a player backed by legendary manager Jose Mourinho in the January transfer window, according to a new transfer rumour.

The latest Rangers news

Philippe Clement took some much-needed pressure off his shoulders on Sunday afternoon as his Gers side sealed a comfortable 3-0 win away to Ross County in Scottish Championship.

It was a must-win game for Rangers in the title race, with victory keeping them 11 points behind Celtic, but they are now just two clear of Aberdeen with a game in hand. However, Clement’s job is far from secure as further improvements are needed.

James Tavernier’s future continues to be a major talking point, with the captain far from his best at times this season and also out of contract at the end of the 2025/26 season. Should the Englishman leave, a high-quality replacement will be needed at right-back, however Neraysho Kasanwirjo could be considered the best option, with the defender on loan from Feyenoord at Ibrox this season.

Meanwhile, Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt has been linked with a January move to Rangers, with former scouts Mick Brown claiming he wants to move there, saying; “From what I’ve been told, he would be interested in a move. As far as Rangers are concerned, he’s the type of player to look at. If Leeds let him go in January, even if it’s just on loan, he’ll be ready to dive”.

Rangers want £5m January signing

According to The European Courier (via Rangers News), Rangers want to sign Fenerbahce winger Oguz Aydin in the January transfer window. The 24-year-old only joined the Turkish club earlier this year, arriving for £5million, but it is now believed he could leave for the same amount in mid-season.

Aydin could be just what Rangers are looking for in January, boosting their attacking options at a time when they need a terrific run in the league.

The Turkish international caught the eye Jose Mourinho during their partnership at Fenerbahce this season: “He’s a good player physically and tactically and very intelligent. With all due respect to (Vincenzo) Montella (Turkish coach), he should be happy. I guess the team that didn’t sign him will be unhappy. We brought him in his last minute i asked him to give me time but after 4-5 months, i am very happy for him.

The fact that Aydin is wanted by other top clubs suggests he is a top-quality player, with the likes of Arsenal, Lille and Lazio all keeping an eye on him.
