WI vs BAN (WARNING): Roston Chase manages to dismiss Tanjeed Hasan in 1st ODI



In the first One Day International (ODI) between West Indies and Bangladesh at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts, an excellent fielding effort from Roston Chase became the highlight of the day. Windies allrounder Chase took a spectacular catch to dismiss Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasanwho looked dangerous.

The dismissal came in the 24th over of the innings, breaking the visitors’ momentum as the West Indies right-arm pacer Alzarri Joseph bowled a short delivery outside the off stump. Tanzid batted on 60, attempted a slashing shot but missed. The ball flew into the air and a spot-up Chase made a well-judged catch to send Tanzid back into the stands. The wicket was crucial, it goes against the flow of the game and marked a turning point in the match. Tanjid, who had hit six fours and three sixes, looked visibly frustrated as Bangladesh lost their third wicket.

While Joseph’s bowling may not have grabbed the limelight, his contributions proved decisive. The pacer finished with figures of 2 wickets in his 10-over spell. In addition to Tanzid’s dismissal, Joseph also accounted Soumya Sarkar earlier in the innings, removing the other opener for 19 runs. His early breakthroughs gave the West Indies the foundation to curtail Bangladesh’s progress.

Sherfan Rutherford shines in the West Indies chase

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh managed to post a fighting total of 294/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz led from the front with a 74-run knock. Pastor Romario was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, claiming three wickets in his spell.

In reply, West Indies put up a clinical display of batting and chased down the target in 47.4 overs with 5 wickets in hand. Sherfan Rutherford emerged as the hero of the match, scoring a magnificent century that anchored the innings. His brilliant performance earned him the man of the match award.
