The West Ham forward is undergoing surgery


West Ham striker Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a broken lower limb following a car accident on Saturday.

The Jamaica international was involved in a crash in Essex and had to be cut from his vehicle.

A West Ham statement read: “West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a fractured lower limb following a car accident on Saturday afternoon (December 7, 2024).

“Michael will continue to be monitored in the hospital in the coming days.”

There was an outpouring of support for the 34-year-old after the news was revealed with West Ham expressing their gratitude as well as thanks to the emergency services.

The statement added: “Everyone at the club wishes Michael a speedy recovery and wishes to express his sincere gratitude to the football family in general for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news, as well as extending a warm thank you to the emergency services and first responders.” who visited Michael immediately after the incident and the medical team that continues to assist him in his recovery.

“The club will provide further updates when necessary.”

Reports this morning said Antonio had suffered a serious broken leg which could potentially force him to retire.
