“Saturday evening live” waved to and missed this weekend with some of their audience.
The sketch comedy show came under fire after nearly a minute and a half of its “Weekend Update” segment highlighted the recent murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcareincluding the American fascination with the alleged shooter’s appearance.
“The manhunt for the killer who shot the CEO of United Healthcare on Wednesday continues. It really says something about America that a man was murdered in cold blood and the top two responses were, ‘Yes, healthcare stinks!’ And also: ‘Girl, that shooter hot,'” joked co-host Colin Jost.

Users on various social media platforms expressed their disdain for the comment, condemning it for a lack of attention to Thompson’s family. The businessman, 50, and his wife had two sons together.
“Disgusting. I couldn’t watch this segment. The victim’s family and friends are very sad right now,” one person wrote under a YouTube clip of the segment. “Agree. I don’t normally watch SNL, and I can tell by the segment and the comments supporting it, that I will no longer be watching it. Making such a joke about someone’s murder is absolutely disgusting… a family grieving right now,” one person responded.

“I mean, is the shooter single???” another user responded and confirmed Jost’s story. A day after the brutal shooting on Wednesday, the NYPD released their first photo of the suspected gunman without a mask, seen smiling.

“New York City police say they were able to obtain the suspect’s smiling photo after the man was apparently caught on camera at a local hostel flirting with a female employee, whose name has been reported as ‘Lucky S. Bechalive ‘.'” co-host Michael Che joked.
“Classless,” wrote one user on New York got shot. That was really distasteful and disrespectful. SNL, you We gotta do better,” another spat.

Jost also targeted officials, specifically the NYPD.
“This week, New York City officials sent a tough message on crime: ‘If you shoot someone in the middle of the street, you better get on your bike, hop on the bus and get out of here, sir.’ he started.
“It’s also crazy that the shooting happened three blocks from here in broad daylight and the guy just biked away. Probably because every cop in the city is guarding our Christmas tree,” Jost said, referring to the Christmas tree lights on Rockefeller Plaza. , which took place on the same day.

“The NYPD now believes the suspect left town on a Port Authority bus. Thanks, but a Port Authority passenger who looks like a murderer is expanding the search,” Jost said as a final joke on the subject. Additional viewers found the segment funny, with some enjoying the Port Authority joke.
Representatives for “Saturday evening live” did not immediately return Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
