His final Asian Cup U19 2024 saw a dramatic start to India’s chase as their star, Ayush Mhatrefell to a simple single. Opening the innings under high expectations, Mhatre’s early dismissal from Mohammed Al Fahad surrendered Bangladesh the early momentum in the high-stakes encounter. The Indian camp was stunned only in the second over as Al Fahad produced a moment of brilliance that stunned the Bangladeshi fans.
A brilliant delivery undoes Ayush Mhatre
Bowling over the wicket, Al Fahad showcased his skills with a superb full-length delivery that he bowled outside the off-stump before snapping back. The delivery, perfectly designed to tempt the batter, lured Mhatre into an ambitious move. Going too far for the ball, Mhatre extended his bat away from his body, misjudging the move. The ball took a thick inside edge, went off his bat and fell onto the off stump, leaving no room for recovery.
The sound of the stumps being uprooted marked Bangladesh’s first breakthrough, sparking celebrations from the Bangladeshi players and crowd. Left-handed pacemaker Maruf Mridha he had already set the tone with a disciplined first over, building pressure from the start. Al Fahad took advantage of this platform in the second over, delivering a masterclass in swing bowling to send Mhatre packing.
