Bellingham continues his fine scoring form as Real Madrid bounce back against Girona

Jude Bellingham found the net for a fifth straight La Liga game as Real Madrid bounced back from a midweek defeat to beat Girona.

Bellingham, Arda Guler and Kylian Mbappe all scored as Los Blancos demolished Girona 3-0 at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi on Saturday.

The 21-year-old England midfielder becomes the first Real player since Karim Benzema in 2021 to score in five consecutive league games.

Bellingham previously had not found the back of the net this season prior to this recent run of goals.

The Real number five opened the scoring on 36 minutes before setting up Guler for his side’s second after the break.

Bellingham then had to be replaced by Dani Ceballos after a hit.

Real added a third when Kylian Mbappe scored his ninth La Liga goal after picking out Luka Modric.

The result comes just three days after Madrid fell to a 2-1 defeat at Athletic Club and moves Carlo Ancelotti’s side within two points of leaders Barcelona with a game in hand.

Real’s Catalan rivals were held to a 2-2 draw at Real Betis earlier in the day. Robert Lewandowski hit his 23rd goal in 21 club games this season but it was not enough to prevent Barcelona from dropping points for the fourth time in five La Liga games.

Lewandowski found the net in the 39th minute at the Benito Villamarin Stadium before Giovanni Lo Celso equalized with a 68th-minute penalty after Frenkie de Jong was sent off for bringing down former Barca team-mate Vitor Roque.

Ferran Torres restored the visitors’ lead but Betis scored a 94th-minute equalizer through Asane Diao to secure a 2-2 draw.

Next up for Real is a trip to Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Barcelona travel to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
