Each year, the Pantone Color Institute selects a hue that it believes will capture the mood of the moment. For 2024 it was Peach Fuzz. And as Pantone revealed on Thursday, Dec. 5, it’s now Mocha Mousse, a soft, nougat brown that ties in with the fashion world’s ongoing obsession with gourmand trends (glazed donut makeup and latte dressing among them).
“There’s this whole ‘feeding’ of color that we’ve seen emerge,” Laurie PressmanPantone CEO said Vogue. “It’s not just a matter of taste. It also speaks to our environment, to our clothes – when you look at a color and say, ‘Oh, that’s really tasty,’ it’s not necessarily just because it’s edible, it’s because it’s so appealing to you.”
Similar to the delightful qualities of chocolate and coffee, Mocha Mousse has a warm, comforting vibe that’s worth indulging. “It’s about our desire for everyday pleasures,” Pressman continued.
She also pointed to the rise of the viral rich-mom aesthetic and the quiet luxe trend as further proof that “ambitious” brown hues will continue to hold sway well into the year ahead.
