Indian National Cricket Team superstar Virat Kohli took charge of the team during the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Virat Kohli stepped in as captain, albeit for a brief moment, during the Adelaide Test against the Australian National Cricket Team on Friday, December 6.

Kohli is the most successful Indian captain in the history of Test cricket. Under his leadership, he transformed the Test team into an unbeaten force at home and a dominant team in overseas matches.

He brought the culture of fitness to the team and built an excellent fast bowling unit with the coaches who helped the Indian team to some historic wins in the SENA Tests.

Virat Kohli captained the Test team from 2014 to 2022 in 68 matches and led them to 48 wins. He lost just 17 matches as the red ball captain and had a win percentage of 58.82.

At times, he has been seen helping skipper Rohit Sharma on the field. Something similar happened on Day 1 of the Adelaide Test.

He gave some suggestions to captain Rohit Sharma to break the partnership between Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne.

In the 17th over, Virat Kohli walked up to Rohit and had a little chat with him. It looked like he made some suggestions to Rohit Sharma and after that instructed Siraj to change the field.

However, Virat Kohli’s suggestions did not work as Australia batsmen Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne remained unbeaten at the end of the first day’s play.

The duo put on a stunning partnership of 62 runs as the Australian National Cricket Team were at 86/1 at stumps.

Talking about the performances of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma with the bat, the Indian skipper managed to score just 3 runs off 23 balls while the battwart, who hit a century in the Perth Test, scored 7 runs off 8 balls.

Indian bowlers haven’t really used the pink ball as much as they should – Sunil Gavaskar

Speaking to Star Sports, Indian National Cricket Team batting great Sunil Gavaskar expressed his disappointment with the performance of the Indian bowling unit.

He opined that the bowling attack under Jasprit Bumrah failed to use the pink ball properly, which led to their failure on the first day.

“They have to make the batters play as much as they can.

“You can set them up by bowling a few deliveries outside off and then get the ball to come back, like he did with Nathan McSweeney in the Perth Test or Labuschagne in the Perth Test, like Bumrah did. Indian bowlers haven’t really used the pink ball as well as they should have,” Gavaskar said.
