Ariana Grande is the ultimate shapeshifter. After months of channeling her Wicked character, Glindain a predominantly pink palette (the signature color of the Good Witch), she surprised us all by debuting a radical new wardrobe that could have been lifted from Elphabacloset.

Its creator was revealed at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation screening Wicked on Thursday, December 4, in New York. Grande, 31, sported minimal make-up, slicked-back hair and a loose black dress. Designed by The Row, the LBD exudes the quiet luxury that doesn’t exist in Oz.

The actress looked positively cozy in the relaxed silhouette, casually tucking her hands into the dress’s hidden pockets as she posed for photographers. The fuzzy mohair finish added a layer of texture and whimsy, moving the otherwise clean design into much more luxurious territory.

Grande’s skirt fell to the floor, but high heels could be seen peeking ever so slightly: she wore knife-sharp black shoes with a toe so pointed it rivaled Elphaba’s witch hat. The Swarovski brand ambassador did not wear a single piece of jewelry except for simple diamond studs.

Grande rem Beauty’s official account took to Instagram on Tuesday, December 3 to share the beauty secrets behind her press tour makeup look. Kicking off her look in Sydney, Australia, Grande, 31, relied on her Galinda Glow Drops (…)

with Wicked‘s press tour largely in the rearview mirror, Grande appears to be returning to her couture roots, which, lest you forget, revolved around mostly black, beige and gray. For years, her wardrobe matched her professional pursuits, whether it matched her album cover or the bottle of her Cloud perfume. Even the visual aesthetic of her Instagram followed suit.

While this was a marked departure from Glinda, it also felt like a supportive nod to her co-star Cynthia Erivo. After all, by the end of Wicked: part 1, Glinda is on Elphaba’s team. That makes Grande’s latest look a stylish tribute to history and right on brand, as usual.
