Mohamed Salah’s goal and assist in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City could have been part of his last game at Anfield, the striker has said.
Top scorer Salah, who now has 13 goals and 11 assists in 20 appearances this season, is out of contract at the end of the season and said last week he was “disappointed” not to be offered a new deal, adding that he was ” probably more out than in’ in terms of staying at Anfield.
“Honestly, that was on my mind,” Salah told Sky Sports when asked about his future after a home win moved Liverpool nine points clear at the top of the table.
“As of now, it’s the last City game (at home) that I play for Liverpool, so I’m going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible, so I’m just enjoying it here. I hope we win the championship and we’ll see what happens.”

Liverpool vs Manchester City: Salah stars
Salah set up the opener from Cody Gakpo after 12 minutes and converted a penalty 12 minutes later to condemn champions City to a fourth successive league defeat.
“I’m a good player,” replied the Egypt captain when asked about his inspired pass across goal for the Netherlands international.
“I told Cody before the game, ‘anytime I have the ball, if there’s an opportunity to play the ball for you, I’m definitely going to do it.’
“It’s very special. I don’t take it for granted. I enjoy every minute here. It feels like home. It’s always a special feeling, to score at Anfield and win games.”

Three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner Salah has signed a new contract in July 2022, making him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history.
The 32-year-old’s lawyer and adviser, Ramy Abbas Issa, told a Harvard Business School study in 2023 that Salah earns at least £1m a week in total income, boosted by factors such as his lucrative endorsements.
“The renewal at Liverpool would be one of the biggest milestones of my career,” Salah told the study, via The Guardian.
“But we have to do this the right way. I’ve learned throughout my career that if you want to be successful, it’s important to invest in yourself not only physically but also mentally.”

Van Dijk: “Good feeling” City’s victory
Defender Virgil van Dijk, who is also out of contract at the end of the season, headed home before Liverpool took the lead.
“City have a fantastic squad,” said the skipper. “They are four times champions in a row and have the quality to punish any team. We were very solid defensively. Offensively we created good chances and could have scored more.
“It was a wonderful day. We focus on the next one. that’s all we can do. There’s no point, at this stage of the season, in getting ahead of ourselves.
“Everyone wants to be in a position where they are, in this case, 11 points ahead of our opponents today. There are so many twists and turns.
“We have some injuries, unfortunately, and we have to deal with that as well. When you win like that, it’s always a good feeling.”
