Golf influencer Paige Spiranac learned a lesson today: stay far away from creating a memecoin.
Haliey Welch, better known on social media as “Hawk Tuah Girl,” has capitalized on her recent fame in countless ways, but her latest effort crashed and burned before it could even get off the ground.
Welch launched her own cryptocurrency on Wednesday, and it saw a pretty good rise just hours after launch, with a market cap of $490 million. according to Cointelegraph, which cited data from DexScreener.

Within hours, however, the coin known as Hawk plummeted to a value of just $41.7 million.
As controversy swirled around the coin, Spiranac posted on X with a light jab at Welch and her team.

“If I’ve learned anything, it’s to never release a memecoin,” the post said.

Bubblemaps, a site that analyzes blockchain data, found that a few people owned the vast majority of Hawk, sparking controversy over “snipers,” or investors who move quickly to steal a majority of the new meme tokens buy when they launch.

The 22 year old overnight celebrity told Fortune that Hawk was not intended as a “cash grab.” She said that while she used to think of cryptocurrency as a scam, she changed her mind because it’s a “fun way for my fans to interact with each other.”
