Boxing Results: Jeremy Hill upset Maliek Montgomery in Super Featherweight Clash


Super Featherweight Maliek Montgomery (20-1, 18 kos) was upset by Jeremy Hill (22-3-1, 13 Kos), losing a Saturday unanimous decision at Sycuan Resort & Casino in El Cajon, California.

In the first three rounds, Montgomery spread mainly to the body. In the last second of the fourth round, Montgomery pulled the hill with a body.

Hill continued to have a good round in the sixth round, going from Orthodox to Southpaw, offsetting Montgomery, who kept the pressure on him. Hill landed a combination of four fist in the seventh round in the first minute, having another good round. In the eighth round, he went back and back.

Montgomery continued to come in the ninth round, facing Hill. This was another narrow round that Hill won. The tenth and last round was an all-out slugfest, the best round of the race. Hill Outlanded Montgomery.

The scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 98-92. Rudy Barragan was the referee.

In the co-owner event, the light Kurt ‘Scoob’ Scoby, 16-1 (14), stopped Cesar ‘Ras Tas’ Villarraga, 11-12-1 (5), at 2:14 of the fifth round of a scheduled eight rounds.

In the second round, Scoby landed on a left hook in the final seconds. He watched with another left on the chin and down Cesar ‘Ras Tas’ Villarraga for 8-Count by referee Rudy Barragan as the round is over. Scoby landed in a fist unrest in the fifth round without a return, and the referee Barragan called on to stop.

Super Middleweight Southpaw Donte ‘Mr. Ko ‘Layne, 7-0 (6), defeated Southpaw Malik Calhoun, 3-3-1 (2), with a unanimous decision of six rounds.

In the first four rounds, Layne had a little advantage. In the fifth round, Layne suffered a cut to the left eyebrow. It was close to the sixth and final round, with Calhoun having an edge.

The scores were 58-56, 58-56 and 59-55. David Sullivan was the referee.

Bantamweight Richard Fernandez Jr., 3-0 (2), hit Garret Palmer, 0-2) at 1:26 of the first round of a scheduled four rounds.

In the first rounds first 30 seconds a combination of Fernandez on the chin threw Palmer for 8-count by referee Chris Leamon. A minute in the round, a left-wing chin hook by Fernandez and Down again went to Palmer for 8-count. An unrest from Fernandez without a return caused Leamon report to move it.

The ring announcer was Matthew Parrino.
