Eddie Howe will be awarded Freedom of Newcastle after the Carabao Cup victory

Newcastle United Manager Eddie Howe has been set to award the city’s freedom after the historic victory of the club’s Carabao Cup in Liverpool.

Howe led Magpies to win 2-1 on Sunday, securing the first big trophy since 1969.

As recognition for this achievement, it will receive the highest Civic Honor Newcastle can give – a prize that had previously been awarded to Club legends such as Sir Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer and Jackie Milburn.

The announcement comes as another local hero, defender Dan Burn, is set for Northumberland’s freedom.

The player born in Blyth played a key role in the final, scoring the Newcastle goal at Wembley-his first club club in 25 years.

Karen Kilgour, leader of the Newcastle Municipal Council, was happy to appoint Howe for the honor.

“The generations of supporters have never seen their favorite club lift a domestic trophy and under its leadership we all now have valuable memories of a truly unforgettable day,” he said.

The official confirmation of the Howe Award is expected to take place at a full council meeting later this year.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Northumberland County Glen Sanderson council has praised Burn’s contribution and confirmed the plans to appoint him for Northumberland’s freedom.

“It’s a big victory for the area and the fact that a local kid from Blyth played such a critical part of the trip is great,” he said.

In addition to these prices, the Northumberland National Park has paid tribute to burn in a unique way – temporarily renaming Elsdon Burn Walk as “Big Dan Burn Walk”.

“Northumberland National Park is a place as large and extensive as Dan himself,” they added, referring to the towering 6ft of the defender.

The victory of the Carabao Cup of the Club will be highlighted by an open bus parade through the city. Newcastle United urged fans to “save the date” for March 29, after the international break, when players and staff will present the long -awaited silverware.
