Sydney Homecoming by George Campos Jr. took an unexpected turn and not the way he was planning. His original opponent, Daud Yordan, was excluded for medical reasons, letting him mix less than a week before the night of the race. Enter Jake Wyllie, a 24 -year -old Queensland artist Knockout, who was literally planning to sit in the crowd before taking the call to the title.
Wyllie receives the call – from the viewer to the main event
Wyllie (16-1, 15 kos) had to be just another fan at the Qudos Bank Arena, but now he is in the ring with the campbow for the biggest race of his career.
“This is dreams,” Wyllie said. “I had already arranged tickets to come to watch on Saturday and now I am struggling in the main event.”
This is one way to save money on a ticket.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I’m ready to take it with both hands.
Great debate, but entering a former undisputed light champion in a short period of time is not exactly a recipe for a disruption. Campos was with the best -teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko – while Wyllie has hit the regional opposition.
Campos laughs from the “rocky” narrative
Campos (21-3, 10 kos) is not interested in fairy tales. He treats this as another step towards a title that shot with the title IBF Richardson Hitchins and Wyllie is just a name in the resume.
“Boxing is unpredictable and it is very unfortunate that Daud Yordan pulls medically five days before the event, but the wild show continues because there is no appearance without me,” Camposos said.
He recognized Wyllie’s credentials, but closed every discussion of an underdog story:
“So, I give Jake the” Rocky “shot! The opportunity, but there ends there. This is not a rocky movie, don’t get it twisted – there is no happy ending. A wild statement is what you will see on Saturday night. Nike by any means.”
This is the polite way to say that Wyllie is being destroyed.
Big names, big bets in Sydney
The Qudos Bank Arena will be full and while Kambosos-Wyllie is now the main event, women’s global title races bring some serious entries:
- Skye Nicolson (12-0, 1 Ko) seems to defend the Featherweight WBC zone against Tiara Brown (18-0, 11 kos) in a battle of unbeaten fighters.
- Cherneka Johnson (16-2, 6 Kos) and Nina Hughes (6-1, 2 kos) settle their rivalry in a WBA Bantamweight title Rematch after their disputed first match last May.
- The heavyweight perspective Teremoana JR (6-0, 6 kos) seems to keep 100% Knockout record intact against James ‘The Beast’ Singh (12-5, 11 kos).
Matchroom’s boss Eddie Hearn, never avoiding the advertising campaign, called it “the largest card in Australia so far this year”.
“First of all, we want Daud Yordan a quick recovery. Now young Jake Wyllie is coming in a short time with an opportunity that changes life to shock the world and destroy the plans of George Kambosos Jr. It is a dangerous puncher with a growing rumor as a feeling of interruption. Sydney we come – and I can’t wait.
