Bournemouth vs Tottenham: Preview, predictions and lineup

Tottenham make the trip to the Vitality Stadium to lock horns with Bournemouth in the Premier League on Thursday afternoon.

A round of English top-flight action in midweek offers Spurs the chance to get back to winning ways after back-to-back home draws. The 4-0 hammering of champions Manchester City followed fierce clashes with Roma and Fulham at home.

This was a game in which Tottenham triumphed twice last season, winning 2-0 at the Vitality thanks to goals from James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. However, Spurs know they are wary of the south coast, with Man City and Arsenal having lost to the Cherries already this season.

Bournemouth’s 4-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers ended their two-game losing streak. Justin Kluivert became the first player Premier League history to score a hat-trick of penalties – Evanilson also became the first player to score three in one game – with Bournemouth going up the table as a result.

Andoni Iraola is unlikely to name a line-up very different from the side that beat Wolves at the weekend, although there may be a few changes as the games come thick and fast in December.

The good news for the Spanish coach is that Lewis Cook could be available after missing the weekend win with a muscle problem. However, in less positive news, the Cherries are still without long-term absentees Julian Araujo, Alex Scott and Luis Sinisterra.

Antoine Semenyo will return to the squad having missed the clash with Wolves through suspension. He collected his fifth yellow card of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion and Kluivert, Cook and Marcos Senesi are all a long way from earning a one-match ban.

Bournemouth predicted line-up against Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Kepa? Smith, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Adams, Cook; Semenyo, Kluivert, Tavernier? Evanilson.

Spurs have a number of absentees ahead of the trip to Bournemouth. Guglielmo Vicario is out of the game afterwards undergoing ankle surgery and Miki van de Ven remains sidelined with a hamstring problem, but World Cup winner Cristian Romero is edging closer to a return, even if Thursday’s game may come too soon for him.

Rodrigo Bendancourt is still ruled out, while Richarlison, Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert are all unavailable in the forward line. Archie Gray picked up a knock against Fulham and will need to be assessed before the cross.

Dominic Solanke made the lucrative move from Bournemouth to Spurs in the summer but there is no doubt he will be back at Vitality on Thursday. The forward missed the draw with Fulham through illness and could be forced out again after a tight turnaround.

Tottenham predicted line-up against Bournemouth (4-3-3): Forster? Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bissouma, Sarr; Johnson, Solanke, Sean.

Bournemouth have shown their ability to turn the odds around this season, especially at home. The visit from an injury-hit and inconsistent Spurs side is unlikely to upset Cherry or Iraola too much.

Bournemouth’s high-octane intensity and approach could exploit a Spurs side without their first-choice centre-back pairing and this field is extremely high. Evanilson’s darts back could cause problems for a Tottenham defense that doesn’t keep plenty of nil.

Of course, Anze Postecoglou’s side have plenty of options in attack, but they have traditionally run away in these games. Thursday’s affair will be tight but the Cherries could secure another impressive win.

Prediction: Bournemouth 2-1 Tottenham
