How to know if a trainer is legit.

If you’ve scrolled through Instagram, YouTube or Tik Tok, you’ve probably seen a lot of different fitness coaches and trainers, but how do you know if a trainer is legit?

Over the years, I’ve watched hundreds of people start selling training and nutrition programs online with ZERO certifications, no experience training actual clients and no supervision.

This is not only misleading, it is dangerous.

Helping guide someone’s training and nutrition is a HUGE responsibility and I don’t take it lightly.

So, if you exercise with me on MOVEMENT or choose another plan, here’s why you should make sure it comes with a Certified Personal Trainer.

Why Train with a Certified Personal Trainer?

A trainer certified through a nationally accredited program such as NASM must take an intensive course and exam to teach in:

  • Basic science training
  • Science of human movement
  • Fitness tests
  • Program design and the Optimum Performance Training (OPT) model.
  • Speed, agility, and speed training
  • Nutrition best practices
  • Client engagement and professional development

Like many professions, we also need to complete a certain amount of continuing education to ensure we stay up to date with the latest techniques, research and training methods.

I have personally completed over 20 different training specializations including pre and post natal training, agility, yoga and recently received new certification as a Behavioral Change Specialist from NASM.

Not all certifications are created equal.

Whether you’re looking for a trainer or to certify yourself, make sure you find a program that’s nationally recognized.

It’s really the only way to be sure it’s 100% legit and meets the highest training standards.

The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) is one of the most respected and reputable companies and where I get my certifications from.

If you are looking to expand your knowledge or become a trainer yourself, definitely check them out.
