The city plays Chelsea in the League Cup final on Wembley on Saturday, but are outside the Champions League in the female Super League.
CEO Charlotte O’Neill said on the club’s official website: “Manchester City boasts competition at the top of the WSL and its excellent recording of European competition.
“Unfortunately, the results this season have not reached this high level so far.

“With six games in the remaining WSL campaign, we believe that a management change will breathe fresh life in our efforts to secure the qualifications for the 2025-26 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
“We would like to record our gratitude to Gareth for all his efforts during his many years in the city. The FA Cup and the championship of the championship will remain special moments in the history of this football club. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Former City Forward Taylor was appointed as a boss on the women’s side in 2020, succeeded Cushing and won the FA Cup that year and the Championship Cup in 2022.
They were the WSL runners -up last season, ending behind Chelsea for the goal difference on the last day of the campaign.
