The New York Yankees Organization feels exactly the same about Gerrit Cole as the fan base.
“(I am) prepared for the worst,” said general manager Brian Cashman de New York Post And newsday on Sunday.
Cole experienced discomfort in his throwing elbow after his second spring training start, a brutal outing against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday, and serious concern has since the a bait of the team.

Cole underwent tests And imaging on that judge elbow on Friday, and he is currently looking for Second Opinions about it, which is never a good sign.
Manager Aaron Boone noted that an update could come early on Monday, but Cashman seems pessimistic about the situation.
“We will see how it is going on,” he added. “I am always wired to think the worst and hope for the best.

“Of course not what you want, but it is ultimately part of our trip here in 2025.”
Another important piece of the schedule, Giancarlo StantonAlso has to do with elbow lesions, because he tries to prevent a seasonal operation to prevent his “serious” tennis elbow in both arms.

Cole also dealt with an elbow injury in 2024 that closed him a bit in the spring before he returned to the bump in the regular season. Cashman added that Cole’s concern, which he recognized on Saturday, is not something new because of how it was treated last season.
“I was with him in Tampa. I think last year (it) was very emotional (for Cole) because it was a whole new experience,” Cashman explained. “This year now, not so emotional because he has already been on this line. And so I think he is more prepared to deal with it mentally because he has treated that before. So that is even the worst scenario. In general, we are all in a better position to treat something if we have some experience in the past.

“He has already had many conversations. A lot of involvement with the doctors and have experienced this year.”
Cole was not closed the entire season. So, while Cashman says that the worst-case scenario is prepared, who knows what happens if and when that becomes reality.
Cashman added that it would be “difficult” to make possible steps on this point of the year to prevent these great injuries, including the Al Rookie of the Year Luis Gil from 2024 with a high-quality LAT tribe that closed it until at least June.
In turn, it is expected that Marcus Stroman will be filled in for Gil, while Warren and Carlos “Cookie” Carrasco figure are potential replacements if Cole is unable to go in any capacity.

The 34-year-old Cole comes from a 2024 campaign in which he threw more than 17 starts to a 3.41 ERA year after leading the competition with a 2.63 ERA and 209 innings More than 33 starts to win his first Cy Young Award.
But when the MLB postseason started, Cole was crucial to help the Yankees reach the World Series, and threw 29.0 innings over five starts with a 2.17 ERA, 22 strikeouts to 10 walks and only seven earned points allowed.
