“I hope he lives for 95 years and I hope he leads life that he wants to live. I hope he never has to defend the Capitol of the United States against the supporters of Donald Trump, and if he does, I hope he is not one of the six who loses his life to suicide.”
That was MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on Tuesday evening, so that some of the most horrible remarks could imagine with a 13-year-old cancer survivor who had just been honored by President Donald Trump during his speech to the joint session of the congress.
DJ Daniel, who only had five months to live five years ago, has since passed 13 brain operations and all the complications and pain associated with the attempts to defeat this horrible disease. But he has endured and openly expressed his wish to serve in the police one day.

Devarjay “DJ” Daniel visited the White House to meet President Donald Trump on March 5, 2025. (The White House)
This is the kind of story that is Pure Americana: Boy is random in a death sentence at the age of eight. He fights, beats all the opportunities and one night, years later on national TV, the sitting president explains him an honorary member of the secret service on the biggest stage for every live event outside the Super Bowl.
It was a moment when we should have put our politics aside in the name of everything that is good and inspiring in the world.
But on Tuesday evening, in what was one of the most shocking and inhumane moments, you were on national television, Democrats, except one legislator, on their hands while Republicans roared to DJ while his father kept him in his arms.
It was also the kind of moment that will not disappear with the next news cycle. Democrats could not even let their Trump Derangement Syndrome go for a minute to encourage DJ, and even some of their own party members and allies are in the media dispel them.
It would therefore be thought that the former communication director would know better during another Republican White House Administration, given her experience in media and messages, then DJ will try back to the Capitol riots of January 6 and suicides to the police.
But Nicolle Wallace then even looked at her MSNBC panel members almost unbelieving.
The return was fast, where Trump called on Wallace, together with Co- “Anker” Rachel Maddow, to be fired. Maddow also decided that it was a good time to change Trump and to honor the boy in one way or another call the moment “disgusting. ”
Both opinion -guesters, who are tapped to serve as lead anchors during major events, have been the subject of massive conviction on social media for days.

But especially for Wallace this was not a one-off, or one of those situations in which she said something on live TV for which she would like a do-over. Only a few weeks ago, the former fellow host of “The View” Trump’s immigration policy compared to the Holocaust.
This type of rhetoric goes years ago to Trump’s first term. Here is one Doozy from 2017:
“He now gets a safe haven of Nazis, on white supremacists, which he has done now, is something that you can’t put back in the toothpaste tube,” Wallace said at the time. “He was so disgraced, not only the Republican party, but the country. People with children can no longer watch TV with their children anymore.”
But just like the boy who cried Wolf, the TDS girl who cried Nazi is no longer listened to much for eight years, especially since Trump’s victory on November 5.
The audience for its program has fallen 35%, despite the fact that for the cable-new, incredibly unpredictable and often entertaining news cycles. Wallace hardly registers a million total viewers per night. In the most important demo of 25-54, she is now on average fewer than 100,000 viewers, which is smaller than the population of Davenport, Iowa.
So that is the question: can a program so blind -sided, so deprived of something objective, and a program that is organized by someone who could not even resist trump when a young survivor of cancer was honored, ever attracting a respectable audience again?
The TDS of the cable news is not limited to Wallace, or even its extremely left -wing network, and viewers vote with their remote control. Fox News Channel, for example, has more Democrats who view it than MSNBC or CNN, according to Nielsen MRI fusion data.
In the 18 and more than demo, FOX brings on average 427,000 democratic voters, while MSNBC only yields 255,000. In the most important demo of 25-54, FOX is an average of 54,000 Democrat viewers, while MSNBC attracts only 18,000 dems, or less than the capacity of Madison Square Garden.

Again, these are Democrat voices Viewers we are talking about.
As expected, Wallace has not apologized or even recognized its comments. Management is also a mother. The hope, it seems, is that the controversy simply washes away.
In the time and months that followed, Wallace will continue to supply the loose plant -based meat for its shrinking audience.
But the law is already getting old and is further disconnected from the general public. A CBS survey that was held after Trump’s address, for example, found 76% approved by the speech, while a CNN survey was clocked in 69% approval.

In order to have Wallace and Maddow really successful, both have to expand the diversity of their audience. And we are not talking about race, gender or sexual orientation, but about the diversity of thinking, of ideas, of debate.
But the chance that it happens for Wallace and her cohorts are small. DJ may have defeated cancer, but the prognosis for the acute case of MSNBC of Trump Derangement Syndrome is grim.
