A group of two -part legislators in the house introduce legislation to re -design Turkey As a country in the Near East of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, instead of a European country, Ankara left the American and NATO bondmen.
The Group of Lawmakers, LED by Reps. Brad Schneider, D-Ill., and Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., introduced the Turkey Diplomatic Realignment Act, which looks to formally move Turkey’s designation at the US State Department from the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs to the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, reflecting Ankara’s deepening ties with Russia, China, Iran, and Hamas, which are fundamentally at odds with Western safety interests.
“Turkey is at a crossroads, but Erdogan has made his choice,” Schneider said in a statement.

“His government houses Hamas agents, supports Putin’s war machine and hinders NATO unit -while still demands the privileges of a Western ally. It is time for American diplomacy to stop pretending that Turkey is still part of Europe,” Rep. Schneider.
Bilirakis said that Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan Repeatedly acts contrary to the American interests, with dangerous behavior that contributes to the instability of the region.
“It is time for US official foreign policy to accurately reflect the reality of the behavior of this hostile regime and that Erdogan is held responsible,” he said in a statement.
The Turkish government has encouraged how members of the congress characterize its foreign policy and European orientation.

“The government of Turkey has become a headache for American policymakers. If Ankara maintains his current route, that headache will soon become a migraine,” Jonathan Shanzer, executive director for the defense of Democracies, told the subcommittee of the house subcommission of the West and East.
He told the subcommittee that Turkey is too often acting as an opponent, so that malignant domestic and foreign policy is pursued that is flying against American interests. He quoted the established track record of Turkey from supporting terrorist groups in the middle -east and villain states, including Hamas and other groups.

Erdogan deepened Turkey’s relationship with Russia and Vladimir Putin during the war in Ukraine and the purchase of the Russian made S-400 Missile Defense System. And although a large part of NATO alliance imposed stipulating economic sanctions on Russia and looked at going away from the energy dependence of Russia, Turkey maintained close trade and energy ties with Russia.
The proposed legislation requires that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejects Turkey’s diplomatic status within 90 days and submit a five -year congress survey on the consequences of the recasting of Turkey away from Europe.
Endy Zemenides, executive director of the Hellenic American Leadership Council and whose organization supports the legislation, told Fox News Digital that he welcomed the two -part legislators to realisticly demand the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Ankara.
