Man Utd are eyeing the Bayern Munich midfielder following a request from Ruben Amorim

Manchester United was connected with Bayern Munich midfielder Konrad Leimer, following reports in Germany that Ruben Amorim is interested in the 27-year-old.

Laimer isn’t a world star and is the kind of reliable team player he could be an asset to United he seeks to rebuild a foundation from which to again challenge the English and European elite.

Sky Sport Germany suggests Laimer has caught the eye of Amorim, a coach looking to put his own stamp on the Red Devils – though not through a big spending spree.

However, SPORTS IMAGE they have already reported in response that the player is completely happy with Bayern, even as a player who does not always start and does not think about a transfer.

His contract in Munich runs for another two-and-a-half years until 2027, meaning his future is also fairly secure from both his and Bayern’s sides.

Leimer has earned a reputation as a big-play player, who was heaped with praise from Bayern fans on social media last week for his performance in a much-needed 1-0 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain. Even in Tuesday night’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, a game in which Manuel Neuer was disastrously sent off after 17 minutes, fans were still impressed with the Austrian.

At international level, Laimer plays alongside former United loanee Marcel Sabitzer and under former interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who also reportedly recommended Laimer to the Red Devils during his time in charge. He initially made his name in the Red Bull machine, emerging from the youth ranks at Salzburg, before his 2017 move to Leipzig. He joined Bayern in 2023.

At Old Trafford, Amorim has Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen at his disposal in central midfield. There is also the possibility of Bruno Fernandes occupying one of the deeper roles, although it didn’t really work for the Portuguese in their recent Europa League clash with Bodo/Glimt, with United too porous in the middle in the first half.
