Iowa Gouverneur signs transgender protection into account


Iowa Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds On Friday a bill signed that the protection for transgender people in the Civil Rights Code takes away from the State.

Although not every state has protection for transgender people, Iowa Democrats added to the Civil Rights Code in 2007.

Iowa is the first state to remove the protection of gender identity from its state code for civil rights.

The new law follows President Donald Trump’s Executive orders that only recognize two genera, limit the operations of sexual changes and limiting transgender people in the army, as well as the statements of the state to ban transvrouwen from women’s bathrooms and women’s sports.

The bill also defines male and feminine on the basis of the reproductive organs of the person at birth.

Iowa’s citizen Right of law still includes protection for race, color, faith, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin and disabled status.

Reynolds described the bill in a video that she uploaded to X on Friday.

“Today I draw a bill that guarantees the rights of women and girls,” she said. “It is common sense to recognize the obvious biological differences between men and women. In fact, it is necessary to guarantee real equal protection for girls.

She said that “this commons -protection was in danger, because before I signed this bill, the civil rights legislation faded the biological line between the sexes.”

Reynolds acknowledged that it is a “sensitive issue for some, many of whom have heard wrong information about what this bill is doing. The truth is that the Iowa simply brings in accordance with the federal civil law book, as well as most states.”

She added that every Iowan deserves, “without exception, respect and dignity. We are all children of God and not a law changes that.”

Trump approved the law on Thursday, shortly before it was signed.

“Iowa, a beautiful condition that I have won great every time, has a bill to remove radical gender ideology from their laws,” Trump wrote about Truth Social. “Iowa should follow the management of my executive order and say that there are only two sexes and pass this bill – as soon as possible. Thank you Iowa!”

Critics of the law say that in all aspects of life it will enable transgender people to be discriminated against.

Democratic Iowa State Rep. Aime Wichtendahl, who identifies as a transgender woman, said: “The purpose of this bill and the purpose of every anti-translust is to further erase us from public life and to stigmatize our existence.

Demonstrants also filled the Rotunda of the state of Capitol on Thursday, and signed as “trans -rights are human rights” and shouted: “No hatred in our state!”

Keenan Crow, who leads policy and advocacy for the LGBTQ Advocacy Group One Iowa, told The Associated Press that the group will “make every legal steps available”, adding that they are still trying to understand how the law will be maintained.

All Democrats in the Staatshuis and the Senate voted against the bill and were accompanied by five house republicans.

The law will take effect on July 1.
