Pope Francis experienced a bronchospasm that led to an episode of vomiting and inhalation, said the Vatican. After the episode, the Pope started non-invasive ventilation and responded well according to the Vatican.
The Vatican says that the pope was alert throughout the day and was oriented all the time.
Before the episode, Pope Franciscus spent his morning alternating between praying and breathing physiotherapy. He also received the Eucharist.
Earlier today, Vice-President JD Vance spoke about the Pope during the annual National Prayer Breakfast and said a prayer for the 88-year-old Pope. The vice president recognized their political differences, but said he prayed for the pope every day.
Vice -President Vance invited those present to join him to pray for the health of Pope Francis. The vice -president said he hopes that the Pope will endure his health struggle, and shared something that the pope did when Covid hit him.
“I think we can all remember that moment of the Holy Father who stands on an empty Saint Peter’s square, holds the Eucharist above his head and gave a sermon that I consistently returned to because it was incredibly meaningful for me at the time. It remains meaningful today,” Vancce said before giving the gay 20 2020.
