Franchetti joined the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps as a student at Northwestern University and was employed in 1985. She told Navy Times in 2023 That she met other ROTC students during a barbecue during the first -year Orientation Week, who informed her about the stock market options offered.
At the time of her commissioning, women were not allowed to serve on warrior ships and aircraft and instead they were assigned to ships such as Oilers and Destroyer contracts. However, the congress withdrew the law in 1993 – clear the way for women like Franchetti to serve in the navy in the leader positions in the navy.
“I became a member of free university and books, but for our mission, I was the opportunity to serve something bigger than myself, and the chance to be part of great teams in the world’s most deadly fighting force: America’s warfare navy,” Franchetti wrote on LinkedIn.

Secretary of defense Pete Hegseeth asked for nominations to replace Franchetti and SLIF, and said that both had ‘distinguished career’.
“We thank them for their service and dedication to our country,” said Hegseeth in a Friday statement.
Vice Chief of Naval Operations ADM. James Kilby announced that he would take over responsibilities as the top officer at the Navy until a permanent replacement was found for Franchetti.

“The work of our navy continues without a disturbance,” Kilby said in a statement on Saturday. “We will support forward -deployed deadly forces that improve peace and scare our opponents.”
The navy did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. It remains unclear where Franchetti are again assigned.
Hegseeth did not give an extra comment on Franchetti or her career, but previously described her as a “dei Hire” in his book from 2024, “The War on Warriors: behind the betrayal of the men who keep us free.”
