A written message in the first person of Pope Franciscus was shared on Sunday as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church continues his hospitalization in Rome.
“I recently received many messages of affection and I was particularly struck by the letters and drawings of children,” Paus Francis posted on X Sunday. “Thank you for your proximity, and for the comforting prayers that I have received from all over the world!”
“I insist on continuing your apostolate with joy and being a sign of a love that embraces everyone, as the #Gospeloftheday suggests,” said another post. “Can we convert evil into goodness and build a fraternal world. Don’t be afraid to take risks for love!”

On Saturday, doctors said that Pope Francis, who had removed part of one lung as a young man, was in a critical condition after having had a long -term asthmatic respiratory crisis while being treated for pneumonia and a complex lung infection.
The pope received “high current” of oxygen to help him breathe through a nose tube. He also received blood transfusions after tests showed low counts of platelets, which are needed for coagulation, the Vatican said in a late update.

The Saturday statement also said that the Pontiff “stays alert and spent the day in an armchair, although in more discomfort than yesterday.” Doctors said the prognosis was “reserved”, and that the state of the Pope touches, given his age, vulnerability and already existing lung disease. His condition has revived speculation about what could happen if he becomes unconscious or otherwise incapacitated for work, and whether he could resign.
