Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Dustin May was on his way back from an injury, hoping to join the team to help them win a World Series in July 2024.
May 27, rehabiling from a Flexorpses and Tommy John Revision surgery, with the chance to return late in the season.

While May was still rehabiling in the Camelback Ranch facility of the Dodgers, he ordered a salad for dinner.
May took one bite and felt lettuce in his throat. He tried to wash it away with some water, but knew something was wrong.
For 15 minutes it was “mega-painful”, May said via the TimeTalk about the incident for the first time last week. The pain was in his throat and stomach.
It turned out that May unconsciously had suffered a serious tear in his esophagus. He later learned that the lettuce was brought down his throat, something that is very unusual.
As soon as the pain was finished, May thought it would be fine.
“I’m not a big Panicker,” he said. “It’s a bit cooled. So I thought:” It’s going well. I don’t have to do anything. “

Millie, May’s wife, was not of the same thinking as Dustin.

After a CT scan unveiled the meaning of the tear in the esophagus of May, doctors immediately took him in an operation.
“It was extremely frustrating. You can’t plan it. You can’t try to prevent it. It just happened,” said May.
“It was not on my bingo card before 2024.”
The operation, which can be described as ‘in fact a complete abdominal surgery’, the pitcher left with a long scar from his lower chest to his belly.

May went from a piece of the Dodgers -Pitching -Staff along the piece, to realize how fragile life is.
“It just gives me a different point of view about many things in life. Just see how something like that non-baseball-related can just be his-it can be disappeared within a second. And the things that my wife put through, it gave me Certainly (a feeling) of: “Wow, that’s how things can change.” It was absolutely very scary, “said May.
“It was definitely a life -changing event. It was absolutely very serious. It is not a common operation. It was definitely an emergency.”
The Tommy John procedure of May was the second time he had undergone the repair of his elbow, undergoing the operation in 2021.
May had 191.2 innings for five seasons in the large competitions. He was effective when he is healthy because he has a 3.10 ERA with 174 strikeouts when he is on the hill for the Dodgers.
The rotation of the Dodgers is littered with ACEs, so it is no guarantee that May is in the start rotation, even though it is healthy again.

Anyway, May is enthusiastic that he is finally healthy and able to compete again.
“I am absolutely excited and certainly have a deeper appreciation for the game.”
