Geraint Thomas announced that he will retire from cycling at the end of the season.
The 38 -year -old announced Monday morning that he would bring the curtain to a successful 19 -year career, with British cycling, saying that September’s tour in Britain would be his final race.
Thomas claimed that the Olympic team is pursuing gold on the track both in Beijing 2008 and London in 2012 before continuing to win the Tour de France in 2018, making the third Briton and only Welshman to win the biggest race of Road Cycling.

“This year will be my last year I am fighting my bike,” Thomas told his podcast, Club Geraint Thomas Cycling Club. “It’s weird. It’s always on the back of my mind. For the last four years I thought it would be my last. But it’s official. This will be my last year.
“When you say it loudly, it’s like, ‘Blimey, in seven to eight months, it will be done.’
“I still enjoy driving my bike and racing, training and aging. I have loved since I was 12. In the scene where I am, “I should stop last year, I don’t want to be here anymore.”
“The main thing is the family, Macs (his son) will be six this year, who is bonkers. I am glad to continue to go so much that he liked to come in races and will remember it. When I won the tour, Macs was born A year later, I thought it would be cool to be around then.
“This is my 19th season, which has been a long time. I have mixed it and maintain a variety, which helps, leading the track to start. You could make an additional year? Commonwealth matches next year? The track, But there is no road.
Thomas, who represented Great Britain at four Olympic Games, was part of the quartet that won the Gold pursuit team in the 2008 Games in Beijing and helped defend the title four years later in London 2012.
In three appearances of the Commonwealth Games representing Wales, Thomas secured the bronze on the road to testing the time before winning gold in Glasgow 2014, as well as bronze in men’s race in 2006 and bronze on the road Test in 2022.
The moment Thomas himself was the flawless victory of the Tour de France in 2018, who saw him become the third British and only Welsh cyclist to win the Tour de France.
He was appointed Officer of the British Empire (OBE) on the 2019 New Year Honors directory for cycling services.
