The star of Ryder Cup Ludvig Åberg produced a brilliant sinking that broke to pull a victory with Maverick McNealy at the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational.

Åberg entered the final round of three strokes from the rhythm and appeared out of conflict when McNealy, starting at five rear, was charged the leaderboard with nine birdies in the first 13 holes.

McNealy put the next one and failed to find other Birdies over his holes, watching the final round 64 and set the ClubHouse target at 11am, as Åberg pulled a level with three consecutive Birdies from the 13th.

Åberg missed a chance from within 10 feet to the 17th and remained tied to the lead heading to the latter, where he found the green in two before the two storey for a victorious Birdie to secure the second title PGA tour of his career.

The 25-year-old’s final round 66 saw him ending the week at 12th and a shot by McNealy, while the world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler-Playing with Rory McILRY-finished Tied-Thir on his way to six under 66 .

How Åberg pushed McNealy into Torrey Pines’ victory

McNealy had to be a hole from 38 feet only to save the PAR in the first, then shot his approach to find the range on the par-Four next to set the first of five consecutive birdies to jump into eight down .

The 29-year-old added another to Par-Five Ninth to reach 30 and started his nine back with successive Birdies, with McNealy then two-putting from 20 feet to Par-Five 13th to go nine down for the Day and temporarily proceed three ahead.

McNealy failed to get up and descend from a Bunker Greenside to the next and fell back to 11, giving hope to the hunting package, with Åberg player taking advantage of a mixed start.

Åberg saw two Birdies in his first three holes canceled with successive Bogeys from the fourth, with Sweden taking shots in the seventh and ninth before mixing a par in the 12th to avoid falling four strokes.

A two-putt Birdie in the 13th and six-foot profit was followed by a 25-foot Birdie in the 15th, jumping Åberg with McNealy, before passing 70 feet to the last to close an impressive victory.

The victory is the fourth in five weeks by Europeans in the PGA Tour, following Seppp Straka, McILROY and Thomas Detry, while victory is going to move Åberg as high as the fourth in the last world rankings.

Night leader Rodgers faded with back-to-back bogeys from the 11th during the final round of 71, seeing him ending nine down with Scheffler, while Tommy Fleetwood of England shared Thursday in eight under Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau and Denny McCarthy.

Mcilroy’s subtle title is essentially ended with a hole, with the Northern Irish people experiencing a frustrating day in the green as it fell to a level 72.

“It was awesome,” Åberg said CBS. “It was a big match. Obviously the golf course is tough, but I felt like I had control of the ball with ball all day and really proud of the way I finished, it was really cool.

“The (par) Putt at 12 was great because I think at this point the lead was at 12 (down) and it was a Putt to stay in eight.

“It was so fun to go down the last holes trying to win a tournament. It’s really a special feeling.”

McNealy, who lost closely in a second PGA tour victory in seven starts, said: “This (second) is more than I could ask to start the day.

“It was one of those things I got on a roll early and there were some Gettable flags. When you get to a roll you just don’t want to get off and I tried to keep it as much as possible.

“I had some poor shots and an unlucky break or two at the end, but he definitely had a few things to go my way early in this round and it was just a tone of fun to be there, to have a chance. Ludvig played awesome. ”
