We have reported on many small houses, but no one is there before. This Housing concept Is the Esch 22 Space Station called, also nicknamed E22SS PIU!
This mobile living space looks like a space station with its inflatable dome, which can inflate to triple its size. The brain behind this futuristic path is an architectural firm called 2001, and it was developed for Esch-Alzette in Luxembourg, the second largest city in the country.
Now I’m not just talking about a tight mobile Tiny house here. This thing can not only grow in size, but is also remarkable, and it is even environmentally friendly. Let’s dive into it and see how this house really works in the space age.

A mobile small house with a twist
In the core, E22SS PIU! is a mobile house of 6 people that can easily be transported to different locations. In its compact shape it looks like a stainless steel trailer, with essential facilities such as a bathroom, kitchen and dining room. However, the real magic happens when it reaches its destination.

Unfold and blow up
Once parked, the E22SS PIU! undergoes a remarkable transformation. Two wings unfold from the trailer and create a circular platform with a diameter of 29.53 feet. This platform is then covered with cork and offers a stable and environmentally friendly basis. The last step in this metamorphosis is the inflation of a double scale pneumatic dome On top of the platform.

This inflation process, which can be completed in just 15 minutes, turns the compact trailer into generous sleeping quarters that are able to comfortably accommodate a maximum of six people.

Accessibility has been carefully considered, whereby a lift system ensures that the top level is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
The use of cork for floors adds an environmentally friendly touch to the design, which further emphasizes the dedication of the project to sustainability.

Made as part of ESCH’s Capital or Culture Program, this project is designed to explore various contexts and environments within the city of Esch. It challenges our perceptions of using resources in architecture and society, stimulating discussions about innovative home solutions.
