Five-name shortlist: Manchester United add another transfer target to solve position problem

Manchester United reportedly have up to five names on their shortlist transfer targets at left backwith a new addition.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of big names recently to strengthen that left side, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia not looking reliable long-term options due to both fitness and form issues.

It looks like Man Utd have now added RB Leipzig’s David Raum to their shortlist, along with Alphonso Davies, Theo Hernandez, Milos Kerkez and Nuno Mendes.

This according to a publication from Sky Germanywho state that Raum fits the profile of the player that new United manager Ruben Amorim is looking for.

The Germany international might not be the biggest name on this list, but he has shown promise with Leipzig and it’s easy to imagine he could make the step up to play for one of the Premier League’s top clubs.

Who should Manchester United sign as a left-back?

One imagines that different fans will have their own different opinions on who would be the best possible left-back signing for United.

One thing that is clear, however, is that Amorim needs someone who can operate well as a full-back, meaning he will need high energy to get up and down the pitch and the quality to contribute meaningfully in the final third. .

Davis is probably the most exciting talent on this list, but Kerkez and Mendes are also two good young players who could probably do the job well.

Raum isn’t exactly the name that will throw many MUFC supporters off their seats, but it could end up being smart business by the club.

Noussair Mazraoui similarly didn’t look that big when he first joined United in the summer but has proven to be one of their top players so far this season.
