The goals by Daniel Munoz and Justin Devenny saw Crystal Palace until the fifth round of the FA Cup 2-0 in Doncaster.
The Eagles avoided a disruption to the Eco-Power Stadium to create a tie in Millwall, despite being struggling to create chances against a well-organized Rovers outfit that failed to make the most of their own opportunities.
Colombia’s wing Munoz eventually discovered a well -edited free kick before Northern Ireland’s international Devenny put the game beyond the reach early in the second half.
Rovers was the first to make an effort for the target, as good work under James Maxwell and Luke Molyneux led Billy Sharp to remove the ball for Ethan Ennis, whose plum shot from the edge of the area, saved, saved, Comfortable by Matt Turner.
The palace proceeded with the first opportunity to be noted in the 31st minute. Daichi Kamada’s smart kick found Jean-Philippe Mateta, whose shot behind the post, but left Munoz with a simple fountain.
The Rovers continued to keep their own and Molyneux and Rob Street in combination to find Sharp, whose turn was kept by Turner.
Oliver Glasner brought Ben Chilwell in the half for his debut in his palace, as full -back England played his first minutes since he appeared as Chelsea’s substitute in a Carabao Cup tie against Barrow in September.
However, just as the League promotion promotion promotion seemed to build some momentum, the palace started a 55th minute break and Hughes played a smart ball over the top to allow Devenny to turn a second.
Doncaster could pull one back to the sign of the hour, but Molyneux fired directly on the Turner after playing cleverly from Sharp, but is now moving away from competition.
Glasner: We can win the fa cup
Crystal boss Oliver Glassner:
“If you are in the competition, you can win it. We will go. I don’t know if it will work. But we will surely do it.
“I’m happy with the show. In the first 60 minutes I think we checked the game and I didn’t give them anything.
“We didn’t create so much, faith in Doncaster. They had a good race plan and it was difficult to find space.”
Unlike South London Millwall opponents in the next round, Glasner added: “I could feel the excitement in the dressing room.
“It makes this game even greater than it is – against any other team the goal and the goal is to win the game and get into the quarterly final.”
McCann: I’m proud of my players
Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann:
“I am proud of the players. Proud of the show.
“We had some moments. The second target I didn’t admit to the league two – this is just the quality of the Premier League.
“The city may be proud of players tonight.”
