Lisandro Martinez will lose the rest of the season after Manchester United have confirmed that the defender had broken a cruciate ligament in Sunday’s defeat at Crystal Palace.
The Argentinean international has been transported to a stretcher over the weekend and, although United has not specified how long it will be out, most ACL injuries require a period of at least six months.
This time frame will mean that Martinez will return in the summer and should be suitable for the start of the next season.

A united statement read: “Manchester United may confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.
“The evaluation of the injury continues to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timetable for its rehabilitation.
“Everyone in Manchester United want the Lisandro Martinez power for a successful recovery and we will support him every step of the way.”
Martinez has been one of the few constants in a united defense that has been shredded and changed all the time due to form and fitness issues.
The former Ajax man was playing well and scored the winner as United won 1-0 in Fulham on January 26th.
