Georgia’s Carson Beck Avoids Watching Football Games in His Free Time: ‘It’s Stressful for Me’

Georgia’s quarterback Carson Beck prepares for another matchup with the No. 2 ranked Texas Longhorns after Georgia defeated Texas on Oct. 15 in Austin.

On Saturday in Atlanta, the teams will compete for the 2024 SEC title.

Georgia survived eight overtimes and was eliminated Georgia Tech November 29. A day later, Texas defeated in-state rival Texas A&M to earn a spot in the championship game.

Beck wasn’t watching his upcoming opponent’s most recent match. Beck tends to avoid watching football matches in his spare time due to the amount of stress it brings.

“I don’t watch football,” Beck said when asked if he planned to watch Texas-Texas A&M.

“I know that sounds a little crazy, but I don’t like watching football. It’s not fun for me. I watch film. So let me explain what I mean by that. When I watch that game, I won’t be there being able to just sit there and enjoy it. I’m going to put pressure on myself all the time.

“When I look at the defense, I think, ‘Why this coverage?’ I’m like, ‘Why did he throw it there against this reporting?’ But I mean, you could learn by watching it, but it’s stressful for me because I never get my break when it comes to football.”

Although causally participating in games does not seem to be Beck’s preference, watching movies is part of his routine.

“But obviously I’ve watched the film back now knowing that we’re going to play Texas in the SEC championship,” Beck said. “Their defense is really good. They have a lot of talent on defense. Their defensive coordinator does a good job of putting them in good positions. They are performing and playing at a high level. I’m just excited about the opportunity to face them again to play.”

Georgia lost 27-24 to Alabama in last year’s SEC championship game and missed the College Football Playoff. But Georgia’s thrilling win over Georgia Tech has boosted the Bulldogs’ chances of securing a spot in the new 12-team playoff, regardless of the outcome of the SEC title game.
