Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says President-elect Donald Trump is in the “right place” when it comes to his warning that there will be “hell to pay” if Hamas does not release the remaining hostages.
“President Trump has put the emphasis on the right place, on Hamas, and not on the Israeli government, as is customary (elsewhere),” Netanyahu said at the start of a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. according to Reuters.
Trump on Monday called on Hamas to release all hostages before taking power on January 20.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said nothing was being done to free those held by the Iran-backed terror group since October 7, 2023, after Hamas attacked Israel and killed at least 1,200 people and kidnapped at least 250 others. Of the 101 hostages remaining in Gaza, seven are Americans.

“Everyone is talking about the hostages being held in the Middle East so violently, inhumanely and against the will of the entire world. But it’s all talk and no action!” Trump wrote.
“Please let this TRUTH serve to indicate that if the hostages are not released by January 20, 2025, the date on which I proudly assume office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East , and for those in charge who committed these atrocities against humanity,” Trump added.

The message also received support from Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

“This is the way to bring back the hostages: to increase the pressure and costs on Hamas and its supporters and defeat them, rather than giving in to their absurd demands,” Reuters quoted him as saying.
