A San Francisco woman accused of threatening children has pleaded not guilty


A woman from San Francisco, infamous for her track record alleged threatening encounters with children and their caregivers in parks across the city pleaded not guilty Monday during her first court appearance, according to a report.

Kim Andrews, 37, has been charged in four separate criminal cases over the past four years in which she allegedly approached and threatened children in public areas, including playgrounds, the The San Francisco Chronicle reports this.

The last case, for which she appeared in court on Monday, took place on July 19 in Golden Gate Park. Andrews allegedly approached a woman and her 18-month-old toddler along the park path and shouted, “Oh, a baby” and “You’re going to die” while holding a lighter and a can of Lysol.

Andrews was charged with child endangerment and making criminal threats in connection with the incident.

Deputy Public Defender Tom McMahon told the court that after her most recent arrest, Andrews had received 120 days of psychiatric care in a hospital and had been admitted to a hospital. mental health conservatorship in November, the Chronicle reported.

McMahon further said he was concerned that a longer prison sentence would impact Andrews’ ability to “receive the care and services she needs.” He said Andrews has been taking medication for her mental health issues.

San Francisco High Court Judge Kenneth Wine called reports of the alleged encounters “horrific” and “extremely threatening,” adding that Andrews was “a danger to the public.”

Andrews was previously arrested on suspicion of battery robbery, shoplifting and criminal threats, according to court records obtained by the newspaper.

Prosecutors have moved to detain Andrews pending trial, saying she poses a risk to public safety.

“My office will do everything we can to ensure children are safe in our city.” District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said this in a statement on November 26 after Andrews was charged in connection with the July incident. “We will fight in court for justice for this family who were enjoying a summer walk in the park. Endangering children and making threats to anyone, especially children and vulnerable victims, will not be tolerated.”
