Amy Schumer in fact, she has online trolls to thank for leading her to the diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome.
Schumer, 43, talked about the swollen face of “the internet coming for her” at press appearances in 2024. during the “Call Her Daddy” podcast episode. on Wednesday, January 22. At first, she tried to brush off the insults until “doctors (started) interjecting in the comments.”
The actress explained: “They were like, ‘No, no … something’s really going on.’ Your face looks so crazy that we think something’s going on.” Schumer, who was confused as to why doctors would troll her, added that social media users thought she had Cushing’s syndrome. (For the uninitiated, Cushing’s syndrome is a disorder caused by elevated cortisol in the blood. This results in a puffy, red, round face.)
Schumer then realized that the steroid injections she was taking to minimize the scars from her breast reduction and caesarean section may be to blame for her puffy features.
“I was getting these steroid shots and it gave me this thing called Cushing’s syndrome; which I wouldn’t have understood if the internet wasn’t so hard on me,” she told the host Alex Cooper.
Schumer added that she was diagnosed with Cushing’s in February 2024, just before she began filming Kind of Pregnant.
“I learned I have something called a ‘moon face’ and I’m in a movie and there’s a camera in my face and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ I was feeling really upset before I started shooting this film.”
The comedienne revealed that she is in love with her director friend Lorraine Caffreyfor support, who told her, “You know what, I think you look great.”
“I just needed one person to step me up,” Schumer said.
Schumer’s swelling is now almost gone after her system naturally cleared it up on its own. Take that, internet trolls.
