Robert Pattinson there is a message about Dusk haters.
“I love when people say to me, ‘Man, Dusk ruined the vampire genre,” the 38-year-old actor said in an interview with GQ Spain posted on Tuesday, January 21st. How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy.”
Pattinson became famous for his role as the vampire Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga moviesthe first of which was released in theaters in 2008. He participated with him Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner in all five films in the saga, which grossed over $3 billion worldwide, although critical and fan reaction remains mixed to this day.
However Dusk gave Pattinson his big break, the franchise could have looked very different, according to the director Catherine Hardwickewho directed the first film.
In November 2023 appearance of “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Hardwick revealed that the film studio Summit Entertainment initially did not think Pattinson was the right choice for Edward.
“They called me and said, ‘Do you think you can make this guy look good?'” she said of the studio’s reaction to Pattinson’s audition video. “I said, ‘Yes, I do.’ Did you see his cheekbones? We’re doing a hair makeover and everything and he’s going to start working out and he’s going to be wonderful.

Summit EntertainmentHardwick then had to convince the actors that Pattinson was the man for the role after failing to impress them in person.
“They didn’t believe it at first. He went there with a soiled shirt,” she said. “It was Rob.”
Pattinson also struggled with the studio’s direction for the original film, which wanted to steer towards a scarier aesthetic. “I wanted to make it as artistic as possible,” Pattinson said GQ (per Diversity) in February 2022. “We had this weird tension where the studio was afraid to make things a little too emo and stuff. I thought that was the only way to play it. I spent so much time (on set) pissed off… I can’t believe how I behaved half the time.”
