The extension of the Champions League means we get continental fixtures in January, but we will know who has secured their place in the last 16 and who will compete in the two-legged play-off by the end of the month.
The 36-team table remains condensed, it only adds to the intrigue and we cannot say for sure whether it will be formed after the conclusion of the penultimate matchday.

Liverpool and Barcelona are both on the verge of securing their respective places in the round of 16. They face Lil and Benfica respectively on Tuesday night.
Slavic Bratislava they are one of three teams without points and face a run of form Stuttgart team that has hopes of sneaking into the playoffs. Bundesliga compatriots Borussia Dortmund undertake a Bologna sides that have been found under Vincenzo Italiano. Dortmund are ninth in the league stage table, but the Italians have collected just two points so far.
Juventus have surprisingly won more than drawn in the league stage, and will aim to build on the momentum gained from a 2-0 home win over AC Milan at the weekend, vs Club Brugge. The Belgians are looking for a good place in the play-offs, having matched Juve’s three wins.
PSV they are two points behind and in quite a precarious position. They are 23rd and currently entering the playoffs, but they should benefit from facing a Red Star Belgrade an outfit who have lost five of their six Champions League outings so far.

Bayern Munich they look set to reclaim the Bundesliga title this season and three successive league stage wins have put them in an ominous position. They are looking to win their fourth European match on the bounce Feyenoord on Wednesday.
The holders, Real Madridthey haven’t had it all their own way this term and there is still work to be done for Carlo Ancelotti’s men to ensure they even challenge for a place in the play offs. They shouldn’t have any problems RB Salzburg on the ground, however, Arsenal and Entomb are also expected to cement their place in the top eight as they face Dinamo Zagreb and Sparta Prague respectively.
Celtic have fought hard in the league stage after competing in Europe for years, and their Champions League campaign will extend significantly into February with a win against the bottom of the table Young Boys at Celtic Park.
of Girona The maiden run in this competition looks to be coming to an end but they will no doubt enjoy another big away day as they face Milan at San Siro. The Rossoneri could be a tough opponent in the knockouts with former Inter Milan winger Sergio Conceicao at the helm.
