Cameron Diaz is ready to revisit the role that made her famous.

“If Jim is on board … I mean, I’ve been riding these coats since day one,” Diaz said Access to Hollywood in a recent interview.

Carey, for his part, reflects the 30s of The mask and whether he would be interested in a sequel while promoting last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3. “Oh my god, it must be the right idea. If somebody has the right idea, I guess,” Carey, 63, said ComicBook.com in December 2024 “It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money … but you never know. You can’t be categorical about these things. I said I would like to retire, but I think I was talking more about a power break. Because as soon as you have a good idea or a group of people that you’ve really enjoyed working with and stuff, things just change.”

Diaz got his big Hollywood break in the original Maskplaying nightclub singer Tina opposite Kerry’s Stanley Ipkiss, who discovers a magical mask that transforms him into a mischievous green-faced character.

The actress followed up her role in The mask with blockbusters like There’s something about Mary, My best friend’s wedding and Charlie’s Angelsmaking her one of the biggest Hollywood stars of the 90s and early 2000s.

Diaz quietly took a break from acting in 2014 after starring in Annie but now he’s back on the big screen opposite her Annie costar Jamie Foxx on Netflix’s Back in action. The actress recently shared how much she loves her free time from acting.

“Oh my God, I loved it. It’s been the best 10 years of my life,” Diaz said on the Friday, Jan. 17, episode of The Graham Norton Show. “I was just free to just say, ‘I’m a mom, I’m a wife, I’m living my life.’

Diaz said that retiring from acting “made sense for (her) family” at the time, as she and husband Benji Maddenwhom he married in 2015, share two children: daughter Radix, born in 2019, and son Cardinal, born in 2024. Diaz added that after a while, “people stopped asking” her to take on new roles. “It was so wonderful,” she said.

“It’s a privilege to do this,” she told the host Graham Norton about acting. “I just said to myself, if I just let this go, all this goodwill, all this that I’ve had to build up for so long, the passion that I have to entertain people and make movies that (make) people smiling and laughing and having fun, and they’re sitting in the theater or sitting at home and it’s moving them – if I don’t do it again and give it a chance and participate in it and be grateful for it, I’ll be a fool.”
