“It was fun! Emily handles a lot of the planning,” Masood, 33, exclusively said Us Weekly at the screening of his new film in New York I wish you were here presented by The Cinema Society on Wednesday, January 15. “She asks me a lot of questions and I do a little bit, but we took a break over the holidays. We didn’t do anything planning and now we’re starting in a bigger way because the wedding is in July.”

The actor proposed to the 30-year-old Shah in December 2023 while on vacation in Japan. They will have two wedding ceremonies in honor of their respective religious backgrounds.

“We’re doing three days, but really two days,” Masoud explained on Wednesday. “We’re doing a Hindu ceremony for Emily and then we’re doing a Coptic Christian ceremony the next day for me, (which) would be like a typical Western wedding. So I think we have a little bit of everything.”

Massoud further teased that the big day will “be a great party.”

“That’s the way I look at it — you throw a party for your family and friends,” Massoud said us. “So you’re kind of a party planner. … I’m excited.”

While Shah took the lead in planning, Aladdin the star said that he ultimately has the final say in choosing his wardrobe.

“(I’m) still figuring this out,” he said. “Emily knows what she’s going to wear.

Masood and Shah have been together since 2020 after they met on a private membership-based application.

A year early, Masood said WZRA TV that he and Shah “had been talking for a while before” they started dating.

“I knew Em about a year ago,” he said in 2023. “So I guess she made the first move and then I made a move. It all worked out in the end. I think the best relationships often start that way – you get to know the person, but sometimes nothing happens right away (until) everything falls apart.”

Massoud immediately decided that Shaw was “beautiful and wanted to get to know her” better.

After Masood and Shah’s relationship turned romantic, they started flaunting their romance through social media. They are also each other’s biggest fans, which for Shah means supporting Masood’s film career (He recently starred in I wish you were here, Julia Stilesdirectorial debutopposite Isabel Furman.)

“I’ve done a few romantic comedies (and) light-hearted movies, and it was clear from reading the book and reading the script that this was going to be intense,” he explained. “But I wanted to do this as an actor. Of course you want to get these opportunities. I just don’t think they make that many movies like that. I wanted to respect that opportunity.”

He added: “Julia makes it feel so easy. She really stretched me and really taught me a lot.”
