Like many Americans, Harley Hurosky of Texas decided to participate in the “Dry January” movement abstain from alcohol for a month after overeating during the holidays.
“Eating and drinking a lot over the holidays didn’t exactly leave me feeling great,” Harley told Fox News Digital. “So I thought it would be a smart move to start the year with the goal of feeling better physically.”
Hurosky, who lives in Houston, hoped she would build a circle of supporters to not only cheer her on, but also join her on her booze-free break. That didn’t exactly happen.

“Of course, I assumed my friends and family would rally around me and join in for moral support,” Hurosky said. ‘The only thing they are committed to is staying comfortably on the sidelines with cocktails in hand.”
Hurosky decided to record the responses of those she asked and post their answers on social media. (See the video at the top of this article.)

“My parents made the list because they are reliable when it comes to answering the phone and I thought their responses would be entertaining, which they absolutely were,” she said.
‘I fully expected it most of my loved ones to respond with a flippant ‘no,’ especially because asking them not to drink alcohol for an entire month felt like a bold move,” Hurosky said. “But their reactions – both the refusals and the laughter – were exactly what made the video. pleasure.”
The viral video was viewed more than 743,000 times on TikTok at the beginning of this weekend.

Hurosky said most of the people she surveyed are “fairly social and travel often,” so she expected some hilarious responses.
“This is exactly why I recorded all the FaceTime,” she continued. “What I didn’t expect was that there would be the most entertaining reactions from my parents. My dad, who is just as goofy as I am, absolutely stole the show. Sorry for doubting you, Dad. You really delivered.”

Although they were able to cut out liquid calories last year, Hurosky said the couple “may have overcompensated with takeout and restaurant meals … Let’s just say the calories we saved by skipping cocktails probably crept back in through our delivery orders.”

But she noticed some other benefits of skipping alcohol.
“We definitely felt less dizzy and enjoyed life without the dreaded hangovers,” Hurosky said.
“Dry January didn’t really fit their vibe.”
“Plus, we proved to ourselves that we were up to the challenge and could go a whole month without drinking, so I’d call it a win overall.”
