Renee Zellweger recalls the time she tore up her Oscars dress and broke into her own home to change

Renee Zellweger revealed that she accidentally broke her 2005 Oscar dress – and had to break into her own home to change.

Zellweger, 55, reflected on the red Carolina Herrera dress she wore to the 77th Academy Awards during an interview with British Vogueis Life in appearance segment on Thursday, January 16.

“First of all, this is an amazing dress – I love this dress,” the actress began.

Zellweger’s dress featured a strapless neckline and a mermaid-style train, which she said tore when someone stepped on it after the ceremony.

“I remember when we were leaving that night a gentleman had stepped on the train and I kept going the other way and he tore my dress right below my butt,” she added.

Zellweger said she went home to change her outfit before going to an afterparty, but quickly realized she had forgotten her keys.

She continued: “I had to climb up to the balcony to the second floor and climb through a little bathroom window in this dress, with a hole in my ass.”

Zellweger’s latest interview comes ahead of the premiere of her new film, Bridget Jones: Boy Crazywhich premieres February 13 on Peacock.

It is the fourth installment of the film franchise after the premiere of Bridget Jones (2011), Bridget Jones: On the Edge of Sanity (2004) and Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016).

In a discussion with costar Hugh Grant for British VogueZellweger found out about her a six-year hiatus of acting which lasted from 2010 to 2016.

“I’m sick of the sound of my own voice,” she said.

“When I was working, I was like, ‘Oh my God, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renee? Oh, is that your crazy voice?’ It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.

Zellweger’s vacation was far from leisurely. Zellweger, who was dating Ant Anstead from 2021 told the publication that she spent her time writing music, studying international law and focusing on her health, among other endeavors.

“I built a house, rescued a pair of older dogs, formed a partnership that led to a production company, advocated and raised funds with a sick friend, and spent a lot of time with family and godparents and drove around the country with the dogs. I got healthy,” she said.
