President Biden defended his administration with insisting that inflation had fallen and that the ‘red states’ were destroying their own economies.
Biden spoke with MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell for the final interview with his administration before officially leaving office on Monday. The two discussed many topics, including Biden’s handling of the economy and the threat of inflation.
The president dismissed criticism of his handling of inflation, saying the alternative was job losses.

“But guess what? I was absolutely convinced. Give the American people a chance. They will go the extra mile and get the job done if you give them a chance. Look what they’ve done. They’ve put a taken a step further,” he said. said. “I never believed that we couldn’t have a soft landing. We’ve had a soft landing. Inflation is down to almost 2% and there’s a lot going on.”
The Ministry of Labor said this on Wednesday inflation rose by 2.9% in December, up from 2.7% in November and the highest rate since July 2024.
Biden then claimed that the red states had “screwed up” themselves and needed more investment in them than the blue states.
“And look, Lawrence, I got a lot of criticism. Understandable. We have invested more in red states than in blue states… for two reasons. First, the red states really screwed up in the way they handled their problems. economy and the way they handle manufacturing, the way they handle access to supply chains,” Biden said.

A new Fox News poll On Thursday, it emerged that almost twice as many people think the Biden administration has made the economy worse rather than better: 52% versus 28%. Additionally, nearly all voters, 89%, say they are extremely or very concerned about inflation — up from 83% at the start of Biden’s term.
