Tommy Lee has a lot to say to his fellow musicians.
The Mötley Crüe drummer shared a letter via Instagram on Tuesday, January 14, taking aim at artists who promote their work on social media amid the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. Thousands of people have lost their homes and been displaced by wildfires that have ravaged areas of Los Angeles since January 7.
“It sickens me to see how most people just care about a stupid social media post!” Lee, 62, shared. “Guys right now nobody cares when your record drops or the next gig is when so many people are in the middle of one of the biggest crashes of all time!”
“I understand that some comic relief is always (necessary), but Jesus Christ, leave it alone and maybe just stop and see who needs help if you can,” he added, though he didn’t name specific artists.
Lee isn’t the only star to call out celebrities for their social media activity over the past week.
on tuesday Kelly Osbourne famous people shouted she thinks they are using the wildfires for personal attention.
Although Osbourne, 40, did not name names, she criticized the “disturbing” trend of stars continuing to post about how they are helping victims of the bushfires, which have so far killed 25 people.
“Am I just being my normal overthinking, cynical self, or is it really disturbing to see all these celebrities using other people’s pain and suffering as a picture to say, look, ‘I’m helping, I’m doing this, I’m doing this?’ she asked in a video posted via TikTok.
“I don’t believe you help because you get attention for it, I believe you just help because you want to. I’m so confused, I think it’s so wrong,” she continued. “No one made you go out and hug yourself, go home.”
Osborne’s comments come as celebrities around the world donating your time and money for wildfire relief efforts. Many have done so publicly, sharing photos and videos of themselves volunteering.
A host of celebrities including Beyonce, Paris Hilton, Jamie Lee Curtis and Eva Longoria have donated money to supporting organizations forest fire assistance. As of Wednesday, Jan. 15, fires in the Palisades and Eaton areas of Los Angeles had damaged or destroyed more than 12,300 structures, according to CNN. This includes the homes of many celebrities, including Hilton, Mel Gibson, Anna Faris and Billy Crystal.
