Arsenal – Tottenham “however big they come” for Postecoglou

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says Wednesday’s north London derby with Arsenal is “as big as it’s ever been” as he looks for a rare away win in the game.

Spurs have won just one of their last 31 away Premier League games against Arsenal, with the most recent coming in November 2010.

Both sides have been plagued by injuries of late, with Tottenham needing extra time at the weekend to beat non-league side Tamworth.

Former Celtic boss Postecoglou says this week’s game is the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

He said: “I felt it was intense from the moment I arrived, but at the same time I never tried to be disingenuous about these things and say ‘this means the world to me’ when I literally just arrived.

“But you understand the context of the game and what it means for the club, what it means for the fans and also what it means for our season.

“In that respect, from the first time we played them I knew it well. A bit like me being in Glasgow, you are well aware of what it means, well aware of the ramifications – both positive and negative.

“I’ve been big on it since the first game and this year is as big as it’s ever been, especially for us and our season.

“We have to start winning games in the league and there is no better place to start.”

Spurs last won in the league before Christmas and have won just three of their last 13 games in all competitions. Their injury problems have seen Timo Werner added to the list, but Richarlison is available to face Arsenal – who have their own problems.

“With the position we are in the league at the moment, regardless of turning points, we have to start winning games and move up the table,” Postecoglou said.

“Although it’s a huge challenge for us tomorrow night, there’s a chance we can do it.”
