Chelsea begin their 2024/25 FA Cup campaign with a visit from League Two’s Morecamp in the third round.
Enzo Maresca’s side are winless in their last four after some post-Christmas blues, but their winless streak will likely end against a Morecambe outfit currently in second place in the fourth division.
The two sides have only met once before, that meeting at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the FA Cup during the 2020/21 season. All four goalscorers that day have since left west London, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, currently on loan at Bournemouth, the only Chelsea contract player to feature.

Chelsea are expected to field their second line-up on Saturday, but injuries will also affect Maresca’s side.
Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiasil are both missing in midfield. with Chelsea already looking for defensive cover in the January market. Romeo Lavia could return to midfield after missing the club’s five Premier League games.
Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are likely to miss the weekend through illness and injury respectively, while Mykhailo Mudryk is still unavailable after failing a recent drugs test. Ben Chilwell and Cesare Casadei will also miss out as they seek moves away.
Chelsea predicted line-up against Morecamp (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen? Acheampong, Dsisa, Adarabioyo, Veiga; Kuniados, Lavia; Dueke, Chicken, George; Guide.
Morecambe manager Derek Adams will be dreaming of a miracle on Saturday, but the reality is his struggling side are likely to be nothing more than a punching bag for 90 minutes.
Even a goal would be wildly celebrated by the traveling fans, who didn’t have much to shout about this term. Ben Tolitt is their best way to get on the scoresheet, with the 30-year-old having scored eight and created three in all competitions.
Morecamp predicted the formation against Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Burgoyne? Hendrie, Williams, Stott, We Create? White, Jones; Tollitt, Breast, Edwards; Dackers.
Chelsea have shown their ability to put less opposition to the sword this term. They scored 26 in six Europa Conference League games, including an 8-0 win over Armenian side Noah, and beat League Two Barrow 5-0 in September in the Carabao Cup.
Saturday could see them get on the scoresheet and flex their attacking muscles against the second-worst team in the top four divisions of English football this season. Only three teams have conceded more than Morecambe’s 39 in League Two and Adams’ side could be in for a big old afternoon against a packed and deep Chelsea side.
