Many Americans flew across the US in 2024.
Although travelers tend to take Transportation Security Administration (TSA) restrictions into account when packing their bags, some may forget or even attempt to sneak items through the airport screening process.
TSA shared a video and press release showcasing some of the “best catches” seized over the past year.

A TSA spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the content is “a good illustration of the types of items banned.”
“They also represent the types of items that cause delays at checkpoints,” the spokesperson said.

A Mississippi man was arrested at Newark International Airport by police after attempting to fly with a disassembled 9mm firearm hidden in a Lego box, TSA officials said.
The gun frame was found in the bottom of a boot under a stuffed sock in an attempt to conceal it.
“The gun’s slide, spring and magazine are loaded with 12 bullets were found among the plastic parts of a Black Panther LEGO set,” the release said.

In North Carolina, officers at the Asheville Regional Airport discovered marijuana hidden in a peanut butter container, TSA announced on Instagram on March 1.
And in February at Chicago halfway International Airport, a passenger tried to hide a vape pen in a tube of toothpaste.
TSA shared the find on their Instagram page and captioned the post: “9 out 10 dentists do not recommend.”
“It seems like they wanted to add a touch of minty coolness to their travel experience. What do we think? Trying to hide items is a sure way to get yourself in a sticky situation,” the post said.

In November, a passenger flew in from William B. Hobby International Airport Houston had a gun stashed in the back pocket of a stroller.
“Houston Airport, we definitely have a problem…,” TSA wrote on Instagram.

TSA at Miami International Airport witnessed a bizarre event in late April when a man tried to sneak out live snakes by security by hiding them in his pants.
“Transportation security officers at airport checkpoints are very good at preventing (prohibited items) from entering the secure side of airports and into the passenger cabins of commercial aircraft,” the TSA spokesperson said.

No firearms in hand luggage
Firearms must be in checked baggage and ‘properly packaged and declared’ the airline at check-in, i.e. unloaded and placed in a locked hard-sided suitcase.”
Leave all prohibited items at home
Passengers can use the ‘What can I bring?’ check. link on the TSA website if they are unsure.

Prepare for the security checkpoint
Flyers are a must have a valid identity card at hand with electronics like a phone out of pockets and placed in bins.
Travelers must follow the “3-1-1 rule of 3.4 ounces or less for each item and the items must be placed in a quart bag, one bag per passenger.”
Passengers can also enroll in “TSA PreCheck,” which expedites the screening of eligible flyers at participating airports.
