“I haven’t eaten in 36 hours, so it’s fun,” joked the former Bachelor, 44, during his Thursday, Jan. 9, episode. “The Vial Files” podcast. “I started a water fast. I don’t recommend it to anyone (and) it’s not some kind of “Do this with me.”
According to Viall, the diet “has to be really healthy” for people.
“It’s supposed to lower your chances of cancer, it’s supposed to be good for inflammation, it’s supposed to lower your chances of Alzheimer’s and things like that,” Vial claims, noting that he first heard about the diet fad from his mother. “Intermittent fasting is thought to have many health benefits.”
The apparent “water fast” diet – where participants drink only water, bone broth or electrolytes – usually lasts a week. However, Viall said his “goal is four days.”
“I needed a cleanse and I did eating too much sugar lately these days,” he explained. “I don’t think my diet is where it could or should be. It’s New Year’s, I was like, “Ya…this.” If my mother can do it, why can’t I?’
Viall further emphasized that his fast is only “temporary.”
“Don’t take my recommendations,” he told podcast listeners. “I’m doing this for myself. I don’t need feedback from any of you listening – good or bad.
According to Health linewater fasting can promote weight loss and reduce the likelihood of chronic disease, but it is also associated with risks such as dehydration, orthostatic hypotension, or worsening of existing conditions. (It is not recommended to participate for more than 72 hours.)
For Viall, the early hours of the fast were the hardest.
“It was a rough first night – and I was fine,” he recalls. “I’m great right now. Last night was rough. … They said the first 24 hours were hard and I felt really weak and tired.”
of Vial wife Natalie Joy, chimed in to agree that he had been very “gentle” tonight.
“I’m suffering too because he’s been a bitch to me all this time,” she joked. “He’s the hungriest man I’ve ever been with. He’s so angry, he’s so angry, and I’m like, “You can stop whenever you want!” Last night in bed I was like, “Do you want me to boil you some eggs? Because that’s crazy. You treat me badly. It’s because you’re hungry and I understand.
Joy added: “I’d be mean too because I’m mean when I’m hungry, but it’s like really hungry. You can’t complain when it was your doing.
