Flashback: Rogan warned last summer of a future wildfire ‘burning through LA all the way to the ocean’

A fragment in which podcast host Joe Rogan warned last summer about an impending forest fire that was devastating Los Angeles has now surfaced again it’s burning thousands of acres across LA County.

During a July podcast episode with comedian Sam Morril, Rogan talked about how an LA firefighter once told him that one day — under the right conditions — a wildfire would decimate the area.

“He says, ‘One day it’ll just be the right wind, and the fire will start in the right place, and it’ll burn through LA all the way to the ocean, and there’s not a damn thing we can do about it.'” said the hostwhile also wearing a t-shirt with the “Los Angeles City Fire Department” logo on it.

Joe Rogan speaks into the microphone

A clip from podcaster Joe Rogan from the summer predicting a wildfire that will decimate Los Angeles has resurfaced in light of the fires currently burning through the area and forcing thousands of residents to flee. (“The Joe Rogan Experience”)

Firefighters in the country’s second-largest city and surrounding areas fought several devastating forest fires which have killed five people, destroyed thousands of homes and other buildings and forced more than 100,000 people to evacuate in recent days.

Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Sheila Kelliher spoke to Fox News on Wednesday and described the scenes of scorched hills as “dramatic and apocalyptic.”

Kelliher said she saw winds “up to 70, 80, even 100 miles per hour” fanning the flames throughout the region.

As Rogan noted in his July video, his fire source emphasized that a city-destroying inferno depends on the wind. He noted that residents had been “lucky” so far.

“He says, ‘Yeah, we’re just lucky.’ He says, “We’re lucky with the wind… But if the wind blows the wrong way, it’s going to burn right through LA,” he said.

Rogan echoed the firefighter’s point that they wouldn’t be able to prevent this. “And there’s nothing we can do about it,” he said, quoting the first responder.

“Because these fires are so big, dude, when you’re talking about something like that thousands of hectares burning at the same time, with wind speeds of about 60 kilometers per hour,” the host added.

Elsewhere during the July episode, Rogan stated that the threat of “the next fire” was one of the reasons he left California for Texas in 2020.

“I have been evacuated from my house three times because of fires,” Rogan told Morril. “The last one, two houses in front of my house, burned to the ground.”
